Is Sanrio Puroland good with kids? Why rain is no problem

A family relaxing together in a park

The short answer: Sanrio Puroland is entirely indoors, so you can enjoy a full day without worrying about the weather — rain, summer heat, or deep winter. That makes it a family-friendly theme park.

There are parades and shows featuring popular characters like Hello Kitty and My Melody, plus a soft-play “fuwafuwa” area for little ones, so kids can enjoy it from age 0 with an adult (tickets are only required from age 3). Unlike an outdoor park, your plans won’t get derailed by the weather — the biggest reassurance for families with young children.

Access: about a 5-minute walk from Tama-Center Station

A family walking hand in hand along a promenade

The nearest station is Tama-Center, served by three lines: the Keio Line, the Odakyu Line, and the Tama Toshi Monorail.

  • About a 5-minute walk from the station: a promenade runs from the south exit, with an easy path for strollers and wheelchairs
  • About 40 minutes from Shinjuku: a direct ride on the Keio Line, no transfers
  • Summer note: the promenade from the station to the park has little shade. In summer, a stroller sunshade, hats, and a handheld fan will help

Highlights: parades, shows, and the boat ride

A colorful festival-style booth

The appeal of an indoor park lies in its lavish staging that makes full use of lighting and sound.

  • Parades and live shows: dazzling parades and shows with character appearances. Since they aren’t affected by weather and run on a predictable schedule, they’re easy to plan around with kids
  • Sanrio Character Boat Ride: cruise through the characters’ world by boat — gentle enough for little ones
  • Fuwafuwa Kids Land: a play area for younger children
  • Character greetings and photo spots: photo opportunities all around the building

Popular parades sometimes require staking out a spot early. PUROPASS (a paid service that shortens waits and reserves seats) makes it easier to watch comfortably, even with kids.

Facilities and tips for babies and toddlers

A parent and child heading out together

The park is well equipped for families with young children.

  • Baby Center: a kitchen for preparing formula and baby food, a baby-food area, a nursing room, diaper-changing tables, a crawling space, and even a vending machine for baby supplies
  • Free for age 2 and under: kids can join in from age 0 with an adult

⚠️ Strollers cannot be used on the 1st and 2nd floors on weekends and holidays, or on weekdays that close at 6:00 p.m. During busy times there’s a rule to check your stroller inside, so pairing it with a baby carrier keeps you moving smoothly.

Since Sanrio is all-weather, if you’re choosing based on how weather-proof a place is, our comparison in Tokyo Disney with kids is worth a look. A day spent with the characters, captured on film

The look on a child’s face the moment they meet a beloved character is surprisingly easy to miss in person. Parents tend to be preoccupied with tickets, saving spots, and the timing of the next show.

We help families preserve the moments they couldn’t capture themselves, on film. If you’re curious, take a look.
