Why Odaiba works so well for a full day with kids

The short answer: Odaiba is a great area for a full day with kids because it’s easy to get around with a stroller, it strikes a good balance between indoors and outdoors, and you can fill a whole day there even when it rains.
Stations and shopping complexes are linked by pedestrian decks with few steps and plenty of elevators, so moving around with a stroller is low-stress. Science museums, indoor attractions, and shopping malls are all clustered together, so extreme heat or rain is far less likely to derail your plans. Along the waterfront there are also sandy beaches and grassy parks, so on a nice day the kids can play outside too.
⚠️ Odaiba is an area where venues turn over quickly. The former “Palette Town,” “VenusFort,” the giant Ferris wheel, “teamLab Borderless (Odaiba),” and “Oedo Onsen Monogatari” have all closed or relocated (teamLab Borderless has moved to Azabudai Hills). Be cautious with information in older guide articles.

Getting to Odaiba and tips for moving around with a stroller

There are two main lines to reach Odaiba.
| Line | Main stations | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Yurikamome | Odaiba-Kaihinkoen, Daiba, Aomi, Fune-no-Kagakukan | From Shimbashi / Toyosu. Great views from the windows |
| Rinkai Line | Tokyo Teleport | Direct via a transfer from the Shinjuku / Shibuya area |
- Use the elevators for strollers: Both the Yurikamome and the Rinkai Line have elevators at every station. For how to use the Tokyo subway when transferring, see our complete guide to the Tokyo subway.
- The complexes are connected by decks: DiverCity, AQUA CiTY, DECKS, and others are linked by pedestrian decks and walkways, making for a stroller-friendly route between them.
- Prepare for the sun in summer: The outdoor decks get hot in summer, so bring a hat, water, and sunscreen. Take frequent breaks inside the indoor facilities.
Miraikan science museum: hands-on learning (free for preschoolers)

A large science museum where you can experience space, robots, AI, disaster preparedness, and more. Many exhibits are hands-on, which is great for satisfying an elementary-schooler’s curiosity.

|---|---|
| Admission (permanent exhibits) | Adults ¥630 / under 18 ¥210 / preschoolers free |
| Closed | Tuesdays (open if a national holiday) and year-end/New Year |
| Strollers | Allowed inside. Rentals available on the 1st floor |
| Nursing room | 5th floor. Diaper-changing tables in the multipurpose restrooms on each floor |
| Nearest station | About a 5-minute walk from Yurikamome “Fune-no-Kagakukan” or “Telecom Center” station |
⚠️ Miraikan is scheduled to close for facility renovations from October 1, 2026 to April 22, 2027. Be sure to check the official website for opening status before your visit.
DiverCity Tokyo Plaza: the life-size Gundam and a food court

A large shopping complex whose landmark is the life-size Unicorn Gundam statue on the 2nd-floor Festival Plaza. Just seeing the statue is free, and at set times there’s also a show where the machine transforms to music.
⚠️ The life-size Unicorn Gundam statue is scheduled to end its display on August 31, 2026 (it is currently in its final-decoration period). The statue will be gone from September onward, so plan your visit timing accordingly. The Gunpla specialty store “THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO” (7th floor) will remain open.
- THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO (7th floor): a large Gunpla specialty store. Open 10:00–21:00, admission free (official: THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO)
- Food court and restaurants: many have kids’ menus and are easy to enter with a stroller
- Facilities: stroller rentals, plus a nursing room and diaper-changing tables
It also works well as a place to eat and rest when the kids get fussy, making it a natural “hub” for sightseeing in Odaiba. (Official: DiverCity Tokyo Plaza)
DECKS Tokyo Beach: indoor attractions that work even in the rain

A shopping complex packed with indoor amusement facilities. Its strength is that you can play all day even in the rain or extreme heat. (Official: DECKS Tokyo Beach)
- LEGOLAND Discovery Center Tokyo: an indoor LEGO facility for ages 3–10
- Tokyo Joypolis: an indoor amusement park
- Little Planet: an interactive spot that blends digital technology with play (official: Little Planet). Note: it relocated to the 5th floor of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in 2024, so please confirm the current location on the official site
- Daiba Itchome Shotengai: a Showa-retro indoor shopping arcade (inside DECKS Tokyo Beach; see the official site above)

⚠️ Prices, hours, and age requirements at each facility can change. LEGOLAND in particular sometimes offers discounts for advance or online booking, so check the official site before you go.
Because it gathers indoor facilities you can enjoy in rain or heat, this area is also easy to slot in as a “Plan B” for days when the weather is hard to read.
Odaiba Marine Park & Shiokaze Park: sand and grass for outdoor play

When the weather is nice, the outdoor parks are a charm unique to Odaiba.
- Odaiba Marine Park: an artificial beach with calm waves. A classic spot for photos with Rainbow Bridge and the Statue of Liberty replica in the background (swimming is often not allowed, so it’s best for playing in the sand and strolling by the water) (official: Odaiba Marine Park)
- Shiokaze Park: has a large grassy field, well suited to picnics and outdoor play (official: Shiokaze Park)
Sun and heat protection is a must outdoors. In summer, it’s easier on the kids to enjoy short outings in the cooler early morning or evening and spend the middle of the day in indoor facilities.

That covers the practical side of planning an Odaiba day. Finally, a brief word on what stays with you after the trip.
Keeping this day as a video with the whole family in the frame
Odaiba has no shortage of photogenic spots, but while you’re chasing after the kids, you realize the only things you’ve photographed are the scenery and the children — the one shot with the whole family in it, surprisingly, rarely gets taken.
We help you preserve the family moments you couldn’t capture yourself, in video. Recording a family day out with Rainbow Bridge in the background is a lovely option. If you’re interested, take a look.
