Is Kichijoji & Inokashira Park good with kids? The short answer

Short answer: Kichijoji is an easygoing full-day area — Inokashira Park’s nature and boats, a small zoo where kids can meet animals, and neighborhood food all in one place — and it’s great with kids. It’s about 15 minutes from Shinjuku, just far enough from the downtown crowds to relax.

Inokashira Park | boats and nature

Boating on Inokashira Pond, at the heart of the park, is a family favorite.

Inokashira Park Zoo | meeting small animals

The adjoining Inokashira Park Zoo is compact and easy for little ones, with a petting area for guinea pigs and more.

Kichijoji town & the Ghibli Museum (reservation required)

West of the park is the Ghibli Museum, Mitaka. It’s a family favorite, but entry is date-specified and fully reservation-based — there are no tickets at the door. If you’re coming from abroad, secure tickets early.
